Pre-order NEW album @ £6.99 before 28 Nov.

Hi all

Adam finally makes a new album - preorder it from my website.

Just a quick update in what is going on in the world of adam smith.  Some of you have been wondering what has happened to me – not too many gigs and things happening, just hiding under a rock in London somewhere?

Well this is partly true.  Inspired by everything that has been going on in my life and in the world around me I've been writing lots and lots of new material and therefore I am recording the very best stuff and making a new album.

Release date 15 December.  Pre-order, all this week for £2 less than full price @ £6.99

I'm really excited about this – it will be my first self-produced release since 2005 when I did 'From the attic'.  This will be a lot different than people are expecting - there will be some interesting new arrangements and sounds, and almost entirely new material no-one has heard.

Once the album is done I am going to sort out dates for 2009 and get this stuff into ears all around the UK.  More on that to follow.

My myspace has been revamped and I now have a fansite on facebook you can check out and join.

A few of the tracks have already had great reception when played live, so I'm really excited about being able to commit them to a recording.

You can pre-order the album from my website for a limited time priced at only £6.99.  After that the price will go up.

The album is provisionally titled "Skin, bones and dreams".

If you want to read more about how I get on with the process, join me on facebook (those of you who are on there) or read my blog "diary of a London musician" where I'll be posting various updates if I get the chance during the week as it is looking like it will be quite hectic.

I'm really really excited about this!

Have good festive stuff

I need your help to turn pro. Win £20!

Hi all

In my perennial quest to be a proper musician I am launching a new project and I NEED YOU.

In exchage you can have SOME OF MY MONEY

With the help of some cunning behind the scenes creative and technical types I am going to create a new website (yes isn't that revolutionary).

The site will incorp0rate a wacky hilarious blog, a video blog even more wacky and hilarious, downloadable awesome tunes (serious and insightful), pictures (beautiful), and general funkiness as well as other fun and games yet to be determined.

However I need to name the site. Give me some website name ideas.

The site is aimed to facilitate my quest to be a full time musician and not have to do other things which quite frankly are not the best use of my time.

Why is this good for you? Imagine the creative joy that would be unleashed upon the world if the site that you named allows me to devote all my time to making incredible musical delights.

Why else? OK i'll give you some kind of prize if we go for the name you suggested. It will be a dot com affair so don't pick anything too obvious.

EXAMPLE Something like solitaryrocker.com or stunningtunes.com or something similar. Whatever you think captures my uncapturable essence of deep meaningful songs combined with slightly alarming humour and strangely strokeable hair.

REMEMBER that whatever it is needs to be
  • catchy (preferably short)
  • relevant
  • not taken already

LET THE CONTEST BEGIN

WHAT'S THE PRIZE?

Apart from my undying admiration and a credit on the site? OK well we'll think of something... money.. a gift voucher... one of my severed fingers (only joking)>.. let's say a £20 voucher or cash or something similar.......

You can comment on this blog entry or email me, or facebook me, or whatever works for you. I'll give you a month to get yourselves into gear. We'll be launching the site in January 2009.

Good luck!

Adam

Post election thoughts - and album stuff

Adam found himself very happy and watching all the people celebrating on TV this morning when I got up at 6.45am (I am the world's worst sleeper).

I imagine the world will quickly go into a massive 'hangover' now, in which everyone says lots of things along the lines of "right, now let's see if he actually does anything".

Let them.  I never met a happy sceptic.  I used to be one - and I wouldn’t choose to go back.

Recording starts in 2.5 weeks.  I'm now freaking out (a little) about how to get a whole album done in a week.  Although you can't beat a deadline for making you perform - there may be a lot of very simply recorded songs with just voice and guitar - that should speed up the process!  Worked for damien rice!

There are some fantastic songs coming out of me in the last few weeks so I'm pretty thrilled about how much of a leap forward this will be.

I'm now left with the burning question of whether to be adam smith - or to celebrate this new era and make the decision today to be something else - and surprise people (and myself) - maybe I'm ready for a change as well.  For some reason it seems to be a really hard decision to make - although I don't know why - I could easily produce an album under a different name (i.e. a band type name, I'm not doing a reg dwight on you) and then go back to being me in 12 months if I decide to.  Flex your approach, that's what I'm always reading - flex your approach but keep going.  So perhaps adam smith singer songwriter will be taking a year off.

Although if I do choose not to be me for this one, I guess I may need one or two collaborators to come in and play on the album with me.  All volunteers welcome (although you may not get picked of course!  This is my soccer team!  And having people in will slow things down a touch, plus they won't know what they're playing yet - neither do I)…

Ah.. the challenge of being a would be rock icon
